How You Can Help!

As a TSA parent or alumni, we need you to encourage and support students as they engage in TSA activities. This could involve volunteering to help drive to a competition, helping to provide support through a TSA booster group, supporting fundraising initiatives, volunteering to judge at a local, state or national conference, or just being “on call” for the chapter advisor when they need an additional set of hands.

Whether a student is just starting out as a TSA member or has been a member for many years, you can have a significant impact on their experience by being an interested and enthusiastic partner in their TSA experience. For specific ideas on how you can best help your schools chapter, contact the TSA advisor at their school.

TSA helped shape my future in engineering, which I think was invaluable. As I'm working towards my Masters in Engineering Management, I think back to the experience I was able to gain through TSA. I was able to work cross functionally across the organization to support projects people were working on. Also, being exposed to the various technology and project work at the high school level, helped differentiate my skill set moving forward in college.

I'm attending University of California Berkeley where I'm studying physics. TSA helped me develop many important skills that I now use. Obviously I learned many specific skills while in TSA, such as using machines and debating on technological topics. However what were really valuable that I got out of TSA were more general skills. Learning how to lead and work in a group, learning how to think critically and problem solve, and most importantly learning how to learn new things and pick them up quickly. Often while in TSA I would need to do some task that I didn't know how to do, so I would need to learn it quickly. This has been crucial for me at college so far where you must encounter new topics every day and become familiar with them quite rapidly. TSA was an excellent stepping stone for me in my journey into college.

TSA could possibly be a life changing event for me.  Since taking technology classes and joining this great team at my high school, I discovered a whole new field.  The opportunities in technology amazed me and I wanted to learn more.  By joining TSA, I was able to explore the possibilities related to technology and engineering.  TSA has definitely influenced my decision to pursue a degree in engineering.  The events I competed in gave me insight into the various engineering fields.  I was so lucky to be involved with this team and even luckier to hold a leadership position, treasurer of the Williamsville North High School chapter.  As the treasurer, I was able to get even more involved with the team, from handling the financials to helping with fundraisers.  It was a great experience to gain leadership and confidence which I have brought with me to college.  Currently, I am studying to obtain a BS in Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA.
